American Soprano Jordan Elizabeth Best has been praised for her “viscerally thrilling” voice and “vivacious and captivating…” stage presence in Opera, Musical Theater, and Theater roles including Mother in Ragtime, Mimi in La Bohème, and Suor Angelica in Suor Angelica.
Born and raised in Grand Ledge, Michigan, Jordan performed in musicals and began studying classical voice as a teen with Metropolitan Opera tenor Richard Fracker. She went on to study Voice and Opera Performance at DePaul University in Chicago in the studio of Susanne Mentzer and received her Masters of Music Degree in Voice Performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) in the studio of Barbara Honn. Ms. Best spent time in Europe, residing in Lucca, Italy, while performing with the Opera Theater of Lucca and studying and singing for a year in Paris, France; learning the title role in Massenet’s Manon.
Upon graduation Ms. Best moved to California where she started her family and began teaching voice, music and theater in the Bay Area. As an in-demand vocal and music director for youth theater, she founded the non-profit children's theater company “Tomorrow Youth Repertory” with esteemed theater colleagues Amy Marie Haven and Tyler Null and has musical directed and choreographed dozens of productions around the bay.
Dedicated to teaching, learning and discovering new things about the voice, Jordan has committed to a solid understanding of various vocal styles and has taken courses in the Estill Method to expand her classical vocal training. Ms. Best trains weekly with passionate voice educator, Estill Master teacher, and heldentenor Thomas Clark on his unique vocal method incorporating the lost vocal technique of Italian tenor Mario Del Monaco, passed on to him by beloved coach Peter Gregg.
Jordan currently resides in the Santa Cruz Mountains with her husband Joshua, their three wonderfully spirited children, and numerous pets including lizards, chickens, dogs and cats. She has recently returned to an emphasis on performing opera and is committed to connecting audiences and artists through this medium in the Santa Cruz and greater Bay Area.
